TAKING TIME OUT TO MOVE FORWARD
I took a weeks’ break recently as with all the Covid stuff and the day to day struggles going on, all our heads were full, tired and in need of peace and a reconnection to grounding.
TAKING TIME OUT
My wife and I took a ‘small’ trip up the Western Australia coast to the Exmouth Gulf some 1200km North on almost just one straight road. A little warmer, a lot more remote, disconnected from the real world with very little, if any, mobile reception or access to the internet. Not great for business but amazing for mental health.
The car was full, with hardly any local radio station reception but this allowed us to talk, contemplate and review our current situation. We also took plenty of time to listen to some audiobooks, The Secret audio discs and some more of our NLP Masters training audio lessons. Things we love but there is never a time or always something else to do than take time to just forget, listen, lay back and enrich our minds.
TALKING TIME OUT TO LISTEN AND LEARN
One of the audiobooks we listened to came highly recommended: “The Anatomy of the Spirit” by Caroline Myss. A fascinating read/listen where the author, who has studied through the Deity and also connected to her spirituality, discusses the connection between ALL religions. She links it to the 7 Chakras and then the spiritual meaning; leading on to a summarised symbolic understanding.
EPIPHANY MOMENT
During one of the chapters, as I was driving, I became almost tranced. Of course, I was conscious obviously as I was driving, but as she was talking about being present and concentrating on the things you can take action on, the here and now, where you can make choices to change outcomes.
I realised, as I was driving on such open roads and with no other traffic around, that the summer haze misted over the road and the path ahead was blurred, unsure on which direction this future road was going to take. However, anyone who has ever driven in outback Australia will know it is straight on, straight again and then even straighter, lol.
THE UNIVERSE GAVE ME THE LESSON
At the same time, I noticed that the road just in front of me was rather coarse, to maintain an excellent grip on these dusty and dry roads. The gravel that was used was continually shimmering in the sunlight, looking like the stars at night and it had drawn my full attention. The shimmering became mesmeric and by focusing on the shimmer about 200m in front of me, my eyes became much less tired. It was easier to focus and much more detail of the immediate road ahead became apparent. Occasionally other cars would pass and as I was well within my lane and driving on cruise, other cars passed without interference and the road ahead was still clear. I travelled like this for many kilometres and driving became easier. I made my wife aware of the same; she gave it a go also and experienced the same.
As this epiphany was exactly in line when the author was narrating the importance of ‘Now’ in the book, the awareness became, even more, a symbolic lesson.
CONCLUSION
If you concentrate on the end goal in the distant future the lines become blurred and these faraway goals always seem that step too far. The path seems never-ending and the haze and ultimately the journey gets tiresome because the destination appears unreachable and unobtainable.
Keep your focus on the present, keep concentrating on the small goals. Small tasks will keep your attention, they are much more achievable and collectively will keep you constantly moving, ultimately reaching your destination. This journey is much less exasperating. The small consistent wins will maintain your motivation, encouraging you to keep going; notwithstanding making the goal much more real and attainable.
We know plans and circumstances always change. The stress, of always looking that far into the distance, means you never feel you have achieved anything, you have nothing to celebrate and so you end up, giving up the fight/journey as it always seems too hard.
Live for the now, live in the present, focus on what you can achieve, constantly move forward and ENJOY the journey.
We had an amazing extended weekend break and despite the Kms we felt so refreshed, invigorated and more focused on the desired destination.
